Managing Your Contacts

I already have permission-based subscribers.  How do I add them to my list?

We give you two ways to add subscribers – you can add them individually or through batch importing in CSV or TXT format.
  1. From the dashboard, go to Contacts | Your Lists to view all the lists created by you.  If you have multiple lists in your system, choose the list that you would like to add subscribers to and click on the Manage Subscribers button.  This will take you to the subscriber listing page. (If you do not have any lists, you will need to create one before you can add new subscribers.)

  2. Click on Add Subscribers; this button can be found on the top right of your subscriber listing page.

  3. Before you can add subscribers manually, you will need to declare that you have already received their permission.  On this page, you will also see a checklist and our Anti-Spam Policy; please read both before you proceed.

If you have fulfilled the checklist requirements and read our Anti-Spam Policy, you can click on Yes, I have permission to add these contacts (we refer to subscribers as “contacts”).  Next, click on the Proceed button.

  4. To import multiple subscribers (aka “batch import”):

    1. Click on the Browse button and select the correct CSV or TXT file from your computer.

    2. Some of the subscribers in your CSV or TXT file may already be in your lists in the system.  Under the If a subscriber is already in my list… option, you can choose to Skip the subscriber, which means we will not import data for subscribers already in the system.  Alternatively, you can choose to Update with data in the file, which means that subscriber data in our system will be replaced by the information that you are uploading.  If you are certain your files contain the latest subscriber information, choose this option.  If not, choose Skip the subscriber.

    3. Our Update with data in the file function is designed to be smart. It will only replace information based on what is in your file, which means it will not delete information that is already in the system, but not in your file. For example, if you have previously entered a subscriber’s address and telephone number in the eConnect Email system, but the file you are importing only contains the subscriber’s latest address, the system will replace the address with the one in your file while leaving the subscriber’s telephone number intact.

    4. Next, specify if the first row of your file is a header, under The first row in my file is a header row… option.  Check this option if you want us to ignore the first row in your file, and only start importing data from the second row onwards.

    5. Now you are ready to import your subscribers.  Click on the Upload button to get to the Column Mapping page.

    6. The Column Mapping page will tell the system how to match data from your file to the data fields in the system. For example, in your file, you should have an Email Address column and a Name column, and thus you would want the system to import this data to the correct data fields in the eConnect Email system.  You can do this by mapping your Email Address column on your file to the Email field on the system, and mapping the Name column in your file to the Name field on the system.

When you have mapped all your data, click on Preview My Import, which will allow you to preview the first five subscribers in your file.

  5. Check the preview screen to make sure your data has been mapped properly.  If everything is fine, click on Start Import Now.  If not, click on Go Back and map your data again.

  6. Once your import is completed, we will show you the number of subscribers that have been added, the number of subscribers that have been skipped, and the number of subscribers that have been updated with new information.

  7. If the system has skipped some subscribers, you can download the skipped subscribers file and rectify any errors if necessary.

  8. Your batch importing process is now complete.  Click on Back To Subscriber List.

All batch import subscribers will not show up on your list until they have been approved by our delivery team. The process usually takes between one to two working days.
